2021 HADDOW + DINEEN PRIVATE UNIVERSE PINOT NOIR (MUSEUM RELEASE)
2021 HADDOW + DINEEN PRIVATE UNIVERSE PINOT NOIR (MUSEUM RELEASE)
MUSEUM NOTES:
Vintage 2021 can be summed up in one word: perfect.
The growing season was a typical La Nina one - cooler and slightly more humid with better than average rainfall. It is a good pattern for our site as it means the grapes ripen slowly, developing complexity and flavour.
Closer to harvest, however, it was mild and dry. Harvest was early and fast. Fruit quality was exceptional, great flavour and bright acid. Both of these qualities have allowed the ‘19 Pinot to age beautifully.
There is VERY little left of this wine for good reason.
Hand-picked, 50% whole bunch fermented, wild yeast, unfined and unfiltered.
Low crops from silica quartz soil produce intense dark cherry and wild red fruit aromas, with spice and herb characters coming from the whole bunch fermentation. Intricate red fruit and spice flavours flourish in a rich palate with savoury finish and fine, grainy tannins.
Powerful yet subtle, evocative, generous, layered and structured.
And it's a pleasure that I have known.

OTHER PEOPLE’S OPINIONS
Nick Ryan, The Australian:
Dark berries, a mix of red and black, a sour cherry edge, too. There’s a dusting of souk spices and some dried herb characters, cherry pie and a soft suggestion of smoke.
There’s a gorgeous suppleness to the palate. a fleshiness that’s never fat. It’s vibrant and fresh, layered and deeply detailed, with a fanning tail of superfine softly grainy tannins driving a long finish.
The top tier of Tasmanian pinot noir has just increased in its number by one.
