2021 HADDOW + DINEEN ‘CROWS DECENDED’ SHIRAZ (MUSEUM RELEASE)
2021 HADDOW + DINEEN ‘CROWS DECENDED’ SHIRAZ (MUSEUM RELEASE)
MUSEUM NOTES:
The fruit for this wine is sourced from a small vineyard in Relbia (near Launceston) that is managed by Jeremy. It is a generally warm site, allowing the shiraz to ripen fully - not always the case in Tasmania.
In 2021, Northern Tasmania saw cooler-than-average temperatures and plenty of rain right up until just a few weeks before harvest. Calm, sunny weather ensued, topping off a harvest of pristine flavours and amazing concentration and structure in the shiraz fruit. A few years in the bottle, and this wine is really showing some excellent development… meaty, savoury, spicy. Drink it now or let that development continue for a few more years. Bugger all left though, so get in quick.
Hand-picked, wild yeast, barrel fermented, unfined and unfiltered.
From fruit grown in one of the oldest vineyards in the Tamar Valley, this is not what you expect when you think of cool climate Shiraz. Complex, spicy, generous and expressive Shiraz.
(Shipping: We have a flat rate of $15, any quantity, anywhere in Australia).
OTHER PEOPLE’S OPINIONS
Nick Ryan, The Australian:
Dark berries, a mix of red and black, a sour cherry edge, too. There’s a dusting of souk spices and some dried herb characters, cherry pie and a soft suggestion of smoke.
There’s a gorgeous suppleness to the palate. a fleshiness that’s never fat. It’s vibrant and fresh, layered and deeply detailed, with a fanning tail of superfine softly grainy tannins driving a long finish.
The top tier of Tasmanian pinot noir has just increased in its number by one.
